Just 40 min outside Bloemfontein, at the foot of the legendary Black Mountain – better known to the locals as Thaba N’chu Mountain, lies the picturesque farm Alexandria.
The Flanegan family has been farming on this precious land since 1916. It is said that Alexandria farm, with its breathtaking sunsets and old sandstone buildings, is one of the oldest in the district. Whether you are looking for an adventure or just a break away to breathe in fresh country air or perhaps, you just need a stopover while passing through the area, Alexandria farm never fails to deliver.
A private and secluded fully self-catering cottage awaits you where you can just slip away from your busy life. Light a fire in the boma while enjoying the big sky country stars and listens to jackal, screeching owl and other farm sounds.
Relax in the jacuzzi bath before snuggling into bed for a peaceful night’s rest.
The mountain offers untamed beauty, gigantic sand stone rock, little water falls after the rains and secret caves with breath-taking views as far as the eye can see. Various trails intrude into the domain of curious meerkats, chatty guinea fowls, odd shy duiker, reebok and dassies on the cliffs. Pair this with fascinating birds and flora and you have a little piece of heaven on earth. Elevations of over 1000 m are easily reached and will put the brave and strong to the test!
Alexandria offers something for all country and nature lovers. Trail running, hiking, cycling, fishing in the dam and bird watching are available on this working farm. For those who love photography there is ample opportunity to capture the perfect sunset and seasonal flora.
